New USMS Record

DIV I Men's NCAA is not the only venue with fast swimming. At this morning's session of the 2004 NEM SCY Championship Fred Schlicher broke the 55-59 Men's 400 IM record by 9 seconds! (4:43).

"Fast Freddy" Schichler is also entered in the 200 free and 100 fly later today and is threat to break 3 USMS records in the same day! That might also be a record.

Check out the live action at:

Results from the 2004 New England Masters SCY Championship held this weekend at Harvard's Blodgett Pool are now posted on the web at: http://www.swimindex.com/meets/2004/nem-scy/

With 600+ swimmers this was the largest regional championship east of California. 71 NE individual records and 3 USMS individual national records were set. Additionally, 4 new USMS relay records were set.

New USMS Records

Fast Freddy Schlicher set two new USMS records and barely missed another two over the past weekend. Competing in the 50-54 age group Fred Broke the 400 IM record with a 4:43.14 (old record 4:52.84) and his 200 fly of 2:08.19 (old record 2:09.66) now gives him the record for all age groups over 50!

Meanwhile, former Princeton swimming standout Michael Ross enjoyed the friendly environs of Blodgett Pool and broke the USMS record for Men 35-39 in the 50 back with a 23.34 (old record was 23.75)

On the relay side the "visiting" team of Eddie Collin's Badger Masters set two new USMS relay records. First up was the 35+ Mixed 800 Free Relay with a 7:43.46 (old record 7:44.80) with the team of A. Luallen, M. Doelger, J. Anderson and S. Newman and then later in the weekend the same group broke the 35+ Mixed 400 Medley Relay record with a 3:55.25 (old record 3:55.65). Badger also finished second to Maine in the travel team award but might have averaged highest point per swimmer.

Meanwhile, Cambridge Masters, consisting of 120 swimmers who train at Harvard's Blodgett pool, defended their SCY NEM Team title just edging out Andover Y and Minuteman masters. At the same time, CMSC set a USMS relay record in the 45+ Men's Medley Relay with a 3:57.78 (old record 3:59.11) with the team of M. Alexander, J La Rochelle, F Schlicher and P Worland.

The NEM Mens' 55+ 800 free relay team of F. McQuiggan, T Morse, D. Rogacki and F. Schlicher broke the USMS record with a 8:25.99 (old record 9:00.83).

Again complete results can be found at:

Congratulations to all competitors and good luck to those athletes going on to Zones, Y Nationals and USMS Nationals.
