Al McCormic passed away on September 19, 2009, at the age of 81.

Exerts from his obituary:

Al graduated from Michigan State University in 1952. He was a physical education teacher and counselor at Saginaw High School from 1956 to 1971; and counselor at Midland H. H. Dow High School from 1971 to 1993, retiring in 1993. He was a member of Michigan Sport Sages and MHSAA Officials Association. He had a lifelong love of swimming. He swam at Battle Creek Central High School, swam competitively at Michigan State and served as an assistant coach at MSU. Al was also the head swim coach at Saginaw High (1956-1971) and a high school swim official. He was a past member of the Midland Master's Swim Program.

Al was a teammate of Don Kortons at MSU. He also coached against Wally Dobler (Flint Central) in the early to mid 60s. While in the Midland Masters, he worked out and swam competitively with Charlie Moss, Allan Ford and Herb Scogg. Though he retired from racing in the early 80s, he continued to swim at Dow HS 3x/week during the 22 years I knew him. His love of swimming never wavered. He will be missed by all of the regulars at the pool.
