This state has 100s if not thousands of potential swims available. Its time some of these were done. It may be 1 mile or 20 miles but the fact remains if it has not been swum then maybe your the one to do it.

I'm not suggesting that you just go out and jump in some body of water with out doing your due dilligence. You will have to study wind patterns, water currents, temps, organize your crew, travel and a host of other things. What will you gain from taking on a swim no one else has done?

You will be the trail blazer, everyone that comes after you will be following you. You will not be repeating what has been done and studied but taking the first step into a place no one else has been, its an incredible kick.

If your just not sure then grab some buddies go and try a local place that looks friendly and safe. If your still not convinced then go and try swimming in an organized open water event. There are maybe a thousand in the lower 48 and 4 here in Alaska.

Go out and be first on the list not number 201 or 1555.

Definitely will be adding an Alaskan open water swim to the dear old bucket list!!! It may not be this year due to shoulder issues.... But I fell in love with open water in 2010 and look forward to jumping in the river, lake or ocean ASAP!! It's also a dream to visit Alaska someday... So you definitely got my attention!

As an actual AK resident, albeit out of the state due to military committments, I plan on doing an AK OW race sometime in the future. I miss AK in a bad way!
