Pensacola Open Water Swimming?

Hi all, I'm looking for a group (or single person, really) to start open water swimming with. I'm going to be doing some triathlons this summer, and it seems that the triathlon groups don't start open water swimming until later in the season. I've never done any open-water swimming, but I am a pretty competent swimmer in the pool (can comfortably swim 1.5-2 miles). Just don't want to jump in without guidance.

I have a long-john Ironman wetsuit; will that keep me warm in the gulf this time of year?

Hi Brian,

I am pretty unexperienced and in fact asked for guidance on another part of this board. Relative to swimming the 3 mile Pensacola swim next month. No joy yet but I am hoping somebody will help me in preparing.

BUT I did swim in Pensacola in Feb of this year. I used a Quintana Roo wet suit. Was a little cold on hands and feet but it was bearable. I think the temp was in the 50's. If I can do it, anybody can. Good Luck.

I'm also interested in doing an openwater swim this summer.
Does anyone know of an openwated event in Georgia?
