Wonder if many from NC are on these fora, if so and you are attending the 2007 NC Open Water Swimming Lake Swims wanted to have a topic to share experiences.
The 2006 edition had at least a hundred participants (was hard to tell by results as many swimmers did multiple events). About 1 in 8 of the swimmers was a Masters swimmer as this is a combined USA Swimming and USMS event. Very nice venue, has 5km, 3km, 2km, and 800m swims and for 2007 a 10km event the next day.
The Masters were treated a bit differently, starting behind the kids by 2min, then having to pick our way through many of those same kids. Is this a common strategy for lake swim starts? Some of us have asked that this be abandoned for 2007, we'll see if the organizers listen to the swmmers here.
Some changes are promised for 2007 - a different finish line chute for Masters to avoid problems getting the correct times for the Masters swimmers.
Appreciate other comments here and will post experiences afterward from this 2June event.
