I do agree with you that something in the process of certifying a meet should ensure that a proper measurement is on file. That would seem a very easy detail to confirm. These things should NOT be done after the fact. EVER.

Jim, sorry to read about your rule screwing by usms. If the pool had actually been measured a month or so after the meet and your times not counted, that would be one thing. But the fact that someone decided it needed to be done several months after the meet, after the list was finalized, that is absurb.

If usms f'ed up by not checking with the pool last year, then you shouldn't be penalized for their mistakes. There was a long period between the prelim so the top ten and the final version that this should have been checked or checked before the meet ever started.

I am sorry that you got bent over the table and screwed by the organization.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune brought about by a mistake made by others.

I was under the impression that without a pool measurement on file with the LMSC/USMS, the meet director would need to make note of such issue on the meet sheet. Perhaps this is a rule that I created in my head, who knows. Having heard of these issues so many times around here on USMS.ORG, I had our pool measured by an engineering firm before submitting a request for sanction with USMS. I'd hate to be responsible for what has happened to your AA status.

If USMS made it official can they make it "unofficial"? What are the grounds to remove an official swim after it has been published. I assume they did not cite a rule in their email to you. NBAC says that the pool is the proper length with water in it and your measurement was made in an empty pool. If USMS wants to follow rules it should work both ways.
I think your 200 SCM free time will hold up as #1. Your 1:01.4 was a great swim, probably 2nd fastest in the world last year for men 60-64 years old.

Previously I thought the worst was when USMS refused to accept the times of USMS swimmers in the last two Canadian Nationals. Those courses were accurate. This is just as bad. USMS has Top 10 submission dates and publication dates. Jim's times were published and "official". Now, long after those dates, USMS has changed its mind.
USMS had ample opportunity to investigate the course prior to the publication date. In fairness to Jim they should not remove the time after they publish it. Jim was not at fault.
