    Re: 2020 tour de France

    Stage #4 of 21 .Tue sept. 1st
98 miles with the earliest mountain top finish in the Tour's history starting in 1903 today. A crash into and over the guard rail by T. Benoot is really scary but, he gets up & back on the team car's extra bike to continue on! Kris Neilands goes off the front at 7 miles to go but the peloton catches him at the base of the last climb with 4.5 miles all up hill at 5 -8 %.
in a large finish at the top - 1st is Primoz Roglic over the line with 2nd - Tadej Pogkar and 3rd - Guillame Martin
The yellow jersey is still on Alaphillppe with a nerd 4 second lead.
No campers or full size cars will be allowed in 17 of 21 stages this year to keep crowds from forming. Most spectators have masks on as well as the people on motor cycles.

Stage #5 115 miles today with no real hills or mts.
At the mid race sprint Sagan is 4th. At 4 miles to go ,two teams drop the hammer and drop 1/2 the field. In a sprint finish it is Wout Van Aret from Jumbo Visma in 1st with 2nd Cees Bol - Sunweb 3rd Sam Bennett -Quick Step and Sagan 4th.
Alaphilleppe is still the race leader in the Yellow jersey in the General Classification

Breaking news !!!! Alaphillippe has been given a time penalty for taking "provisions" in a prohibited area!
This takes him out of 1st place in the tour and out of the Yellow jersey!
I will watch today's race to find out more on this.

Well --- it turns out Alaphilippe did take a water bottle at 17 K ,inside the 20K to go limit of the day, to incur the 20 second time penalty along with 2 other riders in the pack. This has dropped him to 16th place!

Another rule that is not applied ,as I see it, is the drafting behind TEAM cars to get back into the peloton by riders with mechanical problems. The T V commentators watch riders do this and say this should incur a penalty but, none have been applied. It is ok to yuck in behind other support cars but not to get pulled forward by the less wind resistance behind the team car which would not make this an individual effort.

    Re: 2020 tour de France

    Stage #7 104.4 miles today.
from the start it changed from a possible entire peloton finish to a Team Bora breakaway of their team and at 90 miles they go even faster to break the sprinters so Peter Sagan can gain points. They position Sagan to win the mid race sprint but, he only gets 2d and adds 17pts. to garnish him the Green sprinters jersey.
To everyones surprise the bora and TDG teams still push on. Thomas DeGendt goes off the front on his own for 25 miles but is pulled back at 22 mi. when other teams sense that they have broken the peloton apart. Even the lead group of 100 riders is fractured into 3 smaller groups! Jumbo Visma -bora -TDG- Eneos all take pulls at the front. At the line 1st is Wout VanAert , who seems to be the fastest of sprinters this year. 2nd Edvold Boassonhagen 3rd - Bryan Coqard.
Tony Yates still in the yellow jersey. Many of the top contenders are more that 1:15 back in the 2nd group and some are 5min. back.
Interesting fact - 104.4 miles in 3hours & 32 minutes with 4 climbs and a top speed of 59.9 MPH!!

    Re: 2020 tour de France

Stage #9 96 miles of mts.
All mostly as a pack from the start to 66 mi. with the 1st climb coming soon 7 mile grade of 5- 12 % Marc Hershi goes for it off the front to gain 1:29 on the peloton. He leads everyone to the top and then downhill for the next climb. At 14,000 feet they encounter clouds -fog - rain and wind that make decending very scary! Hershi now has 1:51 on the pack and at 33 to go ,he leads 7 chasers by 3:28 and the peloton by 4:32. 23 to go & only Hershi at the front with4 chasers back a short time. 13 to go & the last huge climb starts - his lead is 2:33. Jumbo starts to attack with the lead breaking out from the pack to try to get time back from Yates, the Tour leader. The pack of 80 at the front is reduced to only 2o by the time they reach the top of the Mt. top! 12 to go 4 break out form those to chase after Hershi and draw within 48 seconds. 9 to go - hershi has the 4 closing in on his one time lead to being within 9 seconds. On the downhill he gains back time to about 27 seconds only to haw the 4 catch him in the last mile and then the 5 sprint to the line. 1st at the finish is Tadej Pogagar -team UAE 2nd -Primoz Rogilic - Jumbo 3rd Marc Hershi 4th Egan Bernal. With the Yellow jersey on Yates back to finish 8th
The new leader is Primoz Roglic overall with 2nd Egan Bernal & 3rd Guillaumin Martin

    Re: 2020 tour de France

On this rast day, the teams were Covid tested.194 tested and none of the Tour riders were positive.
Only one test of a race official was + and of his 4 tests this is the 1st to be +
If 2 riders and 2 team members tes t+ the team must all drop out of the Tour!

    Re: 2020 tour de France

Stage #10 104.7 The latest stage of the Tour starts from an island and finishes on an island as well.
FLAT with 1,00s of center islands and roundabouts[called - Traffic furniture] will prove to be the test of the day!
At the start 2 riders take off for 45 miles only to be pulled back,
At 64 to go a crash of 30 go down hard. Cross winds make the peloton try to shelter by stacking across the road to protect the team members in the draft.
The sprint point - Trentin wins with Sagan 2nd.
The peloton is now asveraing 30 mph. 30 to go - another crash then 10 miles later another crash that puts some of the G C riders 7th & 3rd on the pavement!.
10 to go , they start over a 2 mile long bridge that is very high to allow ocean going ships under proves to allow the stone to creat a break of 1/2 the front riders. Tight turns and traffic furniture cause jam ups and trigger bumping going into the finish sprint.
At the line it is Sam Bennet , the 1st Irishman to win a stage since 1992 to take the win!!! 2nd is Caleb Ewan 3rd Peter Sagan,
Sam Bennet takes the sprinters jersey from Sagan with this 50 point win.
All the top G C riders remain the same. 1st - Primoz Roglic 2nd Bernal 3rd Martin

    Re: 2020 tour de France

Stage # 11 104 miles 84 degrees & sun 176 riders started the Race in Nice and today 163 start.
A mostly flat day without ALL the traffic furniture of yesterday! A lot of race discussion about the many crashes that took place yesterday and how to minimize the injuries that they cause. Better routes outside of towns, removing some of the poles and narrow curbing BEFORE the Tour goes thru are being looked into.
At the drop of the flag a lone rider, Matt Ladagnous goes off the front and STAYS out for 3 1/2 hours and 80 miles before he is caught! The mid sprint was won by Matt and 2:48 back the pack comes thru with Sam Bennett taking 2nd and Sagan 4th. The peloton is flying now at 9 mi. to go at 34.7 mph.
The last 400 meters is slightly up hill into the wind. 3 riders unexpectedly go for it in the last 2 miles to throw off the sprint teams .
4 are almost even as Sagan shoulder & head bumps Van Aert to make space for his run to the line. Legal but, aggressive.
At the line 1st is Caleb Ewan 2nd Sagan 3rd Bennett 4 th Van Aert
The G C leaders remain unchanged.

    Re: 2020 tour de France

After the race was over yeterday the referees decided to "Relegate" penalty Sagan for his shoulder & head movement at the sprint! This causes him to lose his 2nd place finish and 13 more points! There was a post/anner at the fence line that is reasonable cause to move over at this point but they decided to not accept this as the reason.

    Re: 2020 tour de France

Stage #14 120.5 miles with some hills
Of course there is an early BA. of 2 that go out to a lead after 15 miles with chase group of 2 +23 and peloton + 2:41
In the K O M [ king of the mountain polka dot jersey] Benoit Cosnefroy leads this category.
Mid sprint point - Sagan is 3rd picking up some pmts on Bennett.
96 miles to go - 2 still in BA peloton back 4:50
81 to go - Start of a 6 mile climb of 1,600 ft. rise.
Bora again pushing the pace to give Sagan a better chance.
70 to go - B A Stephen Kuna goes off the front with 2 chasers back :25
65 to go - Bora leads peloton and has Sagan and starts to drop Bennet to the back of the peloton. And the back 1:03
51 to go - BA by Kung peloton still has Sagan
47 to go - B A caught by peloton . Bennett still slowing.
35 to go - Bennett group throws up hands to signify they quit the chase and drop off to 7:39 back!
21 to go - P is pushing hard leaving Bennett group back now by 10:02 with slower sprinters not able to keep pace back at 16:23.
    The average speed in hour 1 = 27mph 2nd hou r= 21mph 3rd = 30 mph and 4th = 26 mph.
6 to go and all hit the gas to get leaders towards the front in the finish town of Lyon, the 2nd largest in France.
Many leads in the closing last miles.
At the line it is not any of the top sprinters that had teams working ALL day for the punishing pace to deliver Sagan to the line!
1st is Soren KraghAndersen - Sunweb and his 1st ever stage win in T D F!!
2nd -Luka Mezgen - mitchelton -scott 3rd -Simone Consonni and 4th Sagan After all the work Bora did ---- Sagan still only gets some pts. back not the 5o for winning!
No top G C leader changes today.
