Hello! There's not much activity on this forum but I'm hoping for some lurkers....
I'm moving to Honolulu (Waikiki area) at the beginning of September - is there anyone around who swims for UH Masters and would be willing to tell me a little about the program? I've seen the web site but there was no email address, mostly I'm just excited to hear more about the group.
Also, are there any Training groups that do ocean swimming near Waikiki? Is it safe to swim alone near Ala Moana or Fort DeRussy?
If I sound really clueless, I am, admittedly! But I am so looking forward to embracing all about training in Hawaii.
I plan to sign up for the Waikiki 2008 roughwater swim. what day is it and may I get a registration form to fill out?
Are there any disocunted hotel rates that I can stay in Waikiki while I do the swim? I have never done this swim before so I am searching for answers.
I am also going to Ohahu, Hawaii April 24 to May 3rd and was wondering if there are any ocean swimming groups with paddlers that will be practicing that time that I can join.

It is a great event.
You can swim at Ala Moana Beach Park, it is around 400-500 meters from post to post.
Very safe to swim by yourself.
You can also swim the roughwater course however, you must swim on the outside of the surfers. This you can do by yourself only if you feel comfortable. This is outside the channel about 1000 meters out. if not you can swim out and then back in. There usually a group of swimmers that swim off of San Souchi Beach, the start of the roughwater on the weekends, but I do not know what time.
Also if you want to swim in a pool, which I would say NO..The ocean is better. Swimming outdoors any place would be great.
There is a Masters team at Univ of Hawaii-Manoa Campus, that would be the closest to Waikiki, great group. http://www.hawaiimastersswim.org/clubs.html#Oahu
